The parts for my car are being collected for shipping. In the photo above, the front suspension (left) and rear suspension (right) knuckles are clearly visible. The brake calipers in the photo are not all for me. I want to make a copy of the rally car’s braking system, and the rally car only had a hydraulic handbrake.

Today the stuff I ordered from Gemeni Racing will be delivered. It looks like the driver came straight from Slovakia, he has a Slovakian license plate on his car. The pallet with stuff weighs about 150 kilos, and the truck has no tailgate… We use my engine hoist to lift the pallet out of the car. Of course, the engine hoist doesn’t roll over the gravel on our driveway, so we have to unpack it on the street. Fortunately, we get rid of the empty pallet quickly, a neighbor makes a nice camp fire out of it
The most important parts are in the photos above. On the left the new shock absorber towers for the rear suspension. The shock absorbers for the Renault 5 turbo are quite a bit larger than the original shock absorbers. The biggest difference is that the Renault 5 uses torsion springs, and the Renault 5 Turbo uses “normal” coil springs. On the right the longitudinal beams (“longerons”). The engine and gearbox will be suspended between these beams.

The temptation is great to get started with the newly delivered parts right away. But a few weeks ago I also received new floorboards for the floor in the back of the car. The floor in the back left was repaired with some JB Weld, in the back right a piece of floor was replaced by a flat plate. Both not pretty. I grind the piece I think I need from the repair part, and with a series of plug welds I secure the new panel. Of course it would be nicer to replace the entire floor, but I actually don’t dare to do that. Maybe on the other side?
